Internet Security Fundamentals

My name is Pete Chico, and I am currently working on my Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration at American Public University with a concentration in Information Management. I have worked with computers and content management for the last ten years which is why internet security is very important to me.

We are entering the year 2017 and there are more people online now than ever. People are connected via their phones, tablets, computers, and the list of devices that we use to get online continues to grow. Most users think that they only need to protect the PC from viruses and hackers, when this is not the case at all. We must think of securing all of our devices that we use to connect to the internet with.

Don't fall into the trap of just thinking that basic virus protection is enough. You have to understand that we are way beyond the simple virus attack now on your device. You need to make sure you are protected from malware and spyware, not to mention adware and phishing attacks. Hearing all that will make some people never get online again. But getting the right all in one security suite and having a little common sense when it comes to storing your personal information and just not tossing it out all over the web will really help you out. Make sure sites you go to are secure before you go shopping. And another great plus for shopping on line, if you credit card offers it, is to get a disposable card number. You login to the card site and get a one time card number to use for each time you shop.

Internet security comes in many shapes and sizes and not one size fits all, plain and simple. You must do your homework before getting a security suite for any of your devices. Every day we spend hours online whether it be for work, school, or play and admit it, you are not always thinking about what you post online. The number of online users continue to grow at a rapid pace and that means for and more opportunities for hacks and identity theft. We need to apply a little more thought about what we post online and how use our personal information as well as educating ourselves better when it comes to internet security and maybe in time we will have a more security internet experience all around.
